Thorpe Park

Thorpe Park
Slogan Explode your thrill buds

Thorpe Park is a theme park located in Chertsey, Surrey, England. This 500 acre amusement park was built in 1979 on the site of a gravel pit which was partially flooded to make a water theme park. Thorpe Park opened to the public on May 31st 1979.

Thorpe Park had its first large roller coaster, Colossus added in 2002. The amusement park is divided into eight themes: Port Atlantis, Lost City, Calypso Quay, Canada Creek, Amity Cove, Ranger County, Neptune's Kingdom abd Octopus's Garden. It offers visitors 24 rides to enjoy, there are 5 roller coasters and 3 water rides.

Port Atlantis

Known more commonly as "The Dome", Port Atlantis is based on a marine theme. This building contains guest services, shops, toilets, lockers, a bar and staff areas. It includes a large restaurant called 'The Glasshouse'.

Lost City

Lost City is the largest area in Thorpe Park, hosting the majority of the rides in the park. It is based around an ancient Mayan theme.

Colossus — This rollercoaster features ten inversions (Vertical Loop, Cobra Roll, 2 Corkscrews, 5 Inline Twists) and currently holds the record for the most inversions of any roller coaster in the world.

Samurai — This ride was first located at Chessington World of Adventures. It moved to Thorpe Park for the 2004 season following a trip back to the Mondial plant in The Netherlands to be refurbished.

Vortex — 32-seater park-based model of the popular KMG Afterburner. The ride opened in 2001.

Quantum — Fabbri Magic Carpet ride, opened in 2003.

Zodiac — For some reason or another, Zodiac is not listed on the Thorpe Park website, but is still available to ride at the park.

No Way Out — Housed within a very distinctive terracotta-coloured pyramid is the world's first (and only) backwards in-the-dark roller coaster.

Rush — Screaming Swing seating 32 people on two arms, which uses compressed air to propel them up to a height of around 60 feet.
