The History of Bangalore
Bangalore,
the capital of Karnataka was built when the king of Vijayanagar
gifted Kempagowda, the Yelahanka Prabhu chieftain with a big portion
of land. He utilized the huge revenue gained from that land to develop
a new town. He encouraged artists, foreign merchants and other artisans
to settle in this newly developed town. After Kempegowda, several
dynasties and sovereigns came to rule Bangalore. It specially prospered
and flourished in the able hands of Tipu Sultan and other rulers
from Wodeyar dynasty.
According
to legends, Bangalore was earlier known as Benguluru. It derives
its name from the tree Benga and from benda kala ooru, which in
Kannada language means, the village of boiled beans. Also known
as the garden city of India, Bangalore is nicknamed the Silicon
city of India for its revolution in the field of IT.
