Delhi is the capital of India. It has been the seat of power since historical times. It is situated on the banks of the river Yamuna and has a massive population of 13 million. There are 214 villages too attached to it. Delhi is an ancient city and there were civilisations present here more than 200 years ago too.

Delhi has an extreme type of climate. It is very hot in summers and cold in winters. Summers in Delhi are hot, very hot. Since it is situated in the plains, hot dry wind blows and is not uncommon for people to be fatally attacked by ‘loo’, the hot dry wind. During afternoons the roads are deserted and one must be extra careful before venturing out. During winter it is cold, up to -6 degrees C or 30.9 degrees F and there is heavy fog, which lead to the most common problem of flight disruptions.

Like all other major metropolitan cities of the world, Delhi also has rapid urbanisation problems of traffic snarls, pollution and shortage of resources like water and power.

Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad are the four satellite cities lying outside Delhi. Delhi is a union territory and thus has its own government. The supreme court of India is also located in Delhi; Delhi’s commercial hub is the Connaught Place. Since Delhi is the capital of India, it is the seat of power and the Parliament is the house of power. The President of India lives in The Rashtrapati Bhavan, the elegant structure built by the British. The lawns of Rashtrapati Bhavan are lush green and beautiful. The Lutiyan garden is another great expanse of greenery in the heart if the city, aptly called the lungs of the city. The North Block, which is situated in Raisina Hills, is the house of the finance and the home ministry.

Even today, the rich archaeological structure, with its influence of the different rulers and era, create a sense of awe in the mind and heart of the visitor.
